First appointment, Friday 7 October 2022, for the new Misano philosophical kermesse. Vito Mancuso will open the review, dedicated this year to the theme of Freedom, with a lesson entitled "The courage to be free". Does freedom really exist? And if it does, where is it? How to define it? These are the questions that Vito Mancuso asks himself, making it clear that we are all used to acting in everyday life, wearing the mask suitable for the situation we find ourselves in. The freedom to express ourselves and to be is in fact very often conditioned by the interlocutors we have in front of us, by the obstacles we have to overcome, by the places we frequent: depending on the case, we wear a particular mask to be accepted and understood. Anyone, out of fear, for convenience, and sometimes even with the best intentions, has tried to appear as others wanted to see them. Therefore, true freedom is found when we have the courage to look inside ourselves, in moments of great solitude, or in the company of the people we love most; and in general every time that, perhaps also thanks to a job in which we recognize ourselves and that gratifies us, we manage to express ourselves fully and throw away the mask. Like Vito Mancuso's lessons, they open the mind, making us reflect and discuss. Vito Mancuso is a philosopher and lay theologian, born in 1962 in Carate Brianza to Sicilian parents.
