The Music Salon is the first room that visitors to the Shchukin mansion find themselves in: it is here that the owner of the house placed impressionist paintings. Sergei Shchukin bought paintings by Claude Monet, Auguste Renoir, Camille Pissarro, Puvis de Chavannes in the first years of his collecting activity (1898-1904). At this time, such masterpieces as Claude Monet's "Meadows in Giverny" and "Luncheon on the Grass", Camille Pissarro's "Opera Passage in Paris" and many others appeared in his house. The entire painting complex from the Music Salon, with the exception of a few paintings, is presented to visitors of the Manege of the Small Hermitage. The curators of the exhibition "The Birth of Modern Art: Sergei Shchukin's Choice" managed to recreate the main rooms of the house on Znamenka: the exposition is organized by "rooms". Viewers can see for themselves how detailed the reconstruction was in the Hermitage: each "room" contains reproductions of original photographs of the corresponding rooms. The curator of the exhibition, Deputy Head of the Department of Western European Fine Art Mikhail Dedinkin, will tell us about the Music Salon, the beginning of Sergei Shchukin's journey as a collector. Until October 30, 2022, we will be publishing videos from the "Visiting Shchukin" series. We invite you to visit Sergei Ivanovich Shchukin and admire his collection! #в_гости_к_шкукину Subscribe to the channel: / @thehermitagemuseum The State Hermitage Museum website: http://www.hermitagemuseum.org The Hermitage Academy: http://academy.hermitagemuseum.org Vkontakte: https://vk.com/hermitage_museum Twitter: / state_hermitage
