Let's start at the bustling main station in Würzburg and follow the meter-gauge tracks first towards the city center past the town hall and then over the Main. The train crosses the river on the Ludwigsbrücke, also affectionately known as the Löwenbrücke. From here you have a good view up to the Marienberg Fortress and down the Main to the old Main Bridge. The route now continues on grass tracks along Mergentheimer Strasse and a little later it passes under the railway line to and from Treuchtlingen. On the outskirts of Heidingsfeld the tram turns onto the spacious Heuchelhofstrasse. This is where the interesting steep section begins with a gradient of up to 9.1 percent up to the Heuchelhofberg. Despite the onset of drizzle the trams were able to negotiate the steep section reliably and without much sand. When they arrive in Rottenbauer the trams turn around on the single-track turning loop and after a short stop travel back towards the city center.
