The Virgin Mary Monastery dates back to the Middle Ages and is located in the Kayadibi Neighborhood of Sarıyer Village, 11 km east of Şebinkarahisar district of Giresun province. It is a monastery built by carving out a solid rock. The monastery has 4 floors, the fourth floor is a church, and the other floors consist of 32 rooms suitable for various services. The walls are decorated with paintings. After the 1939 earthquake, climbing up and down to the monastery became quite difficult. It is the largest natural and carved monastery in Turkey after the Sümela Monastery.
