Thirty-seventh episode: The campaign of the great Viking army in England - 865-878 This video is the third in a series of four on the first great Viking phase in Western Europe. After the intensification of raids, the Vikings entered a new phase and radically changed their behavior. They now sought to integrate into the local elites and, in doing so, appropriated territories. This mechanically forced them to accept pitched combat more frequently. How did they behave strategically and tactically? An opportunity to overcome prejudices about their omnipotence and tactical aggressiveness. I have not dug into the subject enough to make a proper description (and I am not sure that historians have finished it) -The notion of border is very far from ours. Beyond the imprecision of the maps and boundaries (which are found in my divisions obviously...), we should not project ourselves on a clear and clean break with controls -It is not impossible that I got my brushes mixed up on certain dates. Finally, what we must remember is that the Viking campaign is particularly gaseous, unpredictable for the time and therefore very complex to trace today (in particular due to the lack of sources) / surlechampdebataille / surlechampfr https://fr.tipeee.com/sur_le_champ Original credits music composed by Julien Théron Logo designed by Camille Sanchez.
