Vice President Gibran Rakabuming, closed the 18th General Assembly of the Communion of Churches in Indonesia (PGI), Wednesday, November 13, 2024, at the Indonesian Christian University 2 Toraja, Jl. Poros Rantepao-Palopo, North Toraja Regency, South Sulawesi. Starting his direction, the Vice President conveyed greetings from President Prabowo who is currently still abroad for a working visit. On this occasion, the Vice President emphasized that President Prabowo's government is committed to maintaining and strengthening the values of tolerance and religious moderation in society. Therefore, the participation of Religious Figures is needed to realize it. "Ladies and gentlemen who are present here, later you can synergize with the Government's vision and programs, especially to overcome the problem of intolerance," said the Vice President. Furthermore, the Vice President hopes that the 18th General Assembly of the PGI can produce constructive thoughts for PGI members and the wider community. "Hopefully this event can produce good conclusions as well," said the Vice President. Concluding his direction, the Vice President asked the PGI members to continue to maintain the values of unity in diversity for a better Indonesia. "Once again, I entrust you all so that tolerance in Indonesia can be maintained," concluded the Vice President. After delivering his brief direction, the Vice President officially closed the General Assembly accompanied by the Acting Governor of South Sulawesi Zudan Arif Fakrulloh, the Elected General Chairperson of the PGI, Reverend Jacky Manuputty, and the General Chairperson of the Toraja Church Synod Working Body, Reverend Alfred Anggui. Previously, the 18th General Assembly was opened by the Minister of Religion Nasaruddin Umar on November 8, 2024 and was also preceded by pre-General Assembly activities, namely the Church Women's General Assembly (PRPrG) and the Church Youth General Assembly (PRPG) on October 31-November 3, 2024. Through this activity, which was attended by approximately 5,000 people, it is hoped that churches in Indonesia can contribute to national development and encourage the realization of a just, peaceful and prosperous pluralistic society.
