This Clinical Session is linked to the Master in Clinical Neuropsychology. https://www.isep.es/curso/master-en-n... Vascular cognitive impairment (VCI) is a clinical condition caused by damage to the blood vessels that supply the brain. It can occur as a result of cerebrovascular accidents (CVA) or ischemic or hemorrhagic lesions that affect key areas of the brain and its connections. The cognitive alterations associated with VCI are multiple; among the most common are difficulties in processing speed, attention and executive functions. The diagnosis of VCI requires a multidisciplinary approach, since the evaluation of the damage involves an exhaustive neuropsychological assessment and neuroimaging studies, in addition to the identification of vascular risk factors, such as hypertension, diabetes or dyslipidemia. In this sense, early diagnosis is crucial to implement strategies that reduce the risk of further cognitive impairment, such as cognitive stimulation, control of vascular factors, lifestyle changes or pharmacological treatment when necessary. Taught by Elena Sirumal Doctor in Psychology from the University of La Laguna (ULL), Master in General Health Psychology from ULL and Master in Clinical Neuropsychology from the Higher Institute of Psychological Studies (ISEP). Her professional performance focuses on three branches: clinical care, teaching and research. Regarding clinical care, since 2014 she has been treating adult patients with cognitive, emotional and behavioral problems, derived from the onset of a neurodegenerative disease or brain damage, in several private practices. Since 2024, she is the founder and director of the GABA Clinic, in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
