Several ships at the Princess Beatrix lock sailing towards the river Lek. The Princess Beatrix locks are a lock complex in the Dutch municipality of Nieuwegein with three lock chambers. They form the shipping connection between the river Lek and the Amsterdam-Rhine Canal via the Lek Canal. They were named in 1938 after the then newly born Princess Beatrix. The Amsterdam-Rhine Canal is a canal in the Netherlands, between Amsterdam and Tiel. It connects the port of Amsterdam with the Ruhr area and is the busiest canal in the world. Approximately 100,000 ships sail over the canal each year. The canal is 72 kilometres long, 100 to 120 metres wide and 6 to 9 metres deep. The Lek Canal is a canal in the Dutch province of Utrecht. The canal is less than four kilometres long and connects the Amsterdam-Rhine Canal with the Lek. Lek is a Dutch river that from Wijk bij Duurstede forms the continuation of the Nederrijn and unites with the Noord at Kinderdijk. #gavoordebinnenvaart #wereldvandebinnenvaart #inlandshipping #sluis #shipspotting Wereld van de binnenvaart is an initiative of the collaborating inland shipping sector. https://www.wereldvandebinnenvaart.nl and https://www.wereldvandebinnenvaart.be Facebook: / wereldvandebinnenvaart Instagram: / wereldvandebinnenvaart IGTV: wereldvandebinnenvaart Linkedin: / wereld-van-de-binnenvaart YouTube channel: Wereld van de binnenvaart
