** Conversation from November 9, 2021 ** It wasn't only Andrzej Sapkowski who inspired the creators of Netflix series. Jacek Dukaj did too. His "Loneliness of the Axolotl" was the basis for two seasons of the series "Into the Night". Dukaj is said to be the new Lem - his fantasy novels provide deep insight into human nature and an idea of what the world of the future might look like. Dukaj combines writing talent with a philosophically inclined mind and notices trends and phenomena that are beginning to shape our reality more and more strongly. In the collection of essays "After Writing", he puts forward the thesis that the era of writing is ending and the era of direct transfer of experiences is beginning, in which not reason but emotions rule - and to such an extent that people are at risk of losing their individual subjectivity. This process has already begun and has strong implications for issues that are particularly important for people who value freedom. How to defend it in a world where words are not only devoid of meaning, but are also no longer important as carriers of orderly, logical content? In a conversation with Sebastian Stodolak, Jacek Dukaj claims that: • we are close to realizing Huxley's vision of "Brave New World" • democracies are revealing their internal weaknesses, such as susceptibility to manipulation... • ...and external: in a clash with the new, Chinese model of governance • freedom of speech is devalued • hierarchies of values are changing, and there are specific reasons behind this change The conversation is also available in audio form available: https://sebastianstodolaktalks.buzzsp...
