In 1970, work began on comprehensively modernizing the vehicle. The shape of the tank behind the driver's cab changed, but not the location of its attachment.[3] The series production of the K-700A began in 1975 after five years of planning and development and lasted until 2002, although the vehicle was only intended to be a temporary solution in the development of the Kirovets K-701.
