Karla Wheelock was the first Latin American woman to reach the summit of Everest via its north face. In 2005, she also became the first Ibero-American to conquer the highest summit on either continent. This woman, who broke all barriers for women in mountaineering in the 1990s, exudes positivity and courage. She is one of the most important mountaineers in Mexico, as well as a social, educational, and environmental entrepreneur. A graduate in law from the Autonomous University of Coahuila (Mexico), she has worked in different institutions in her country, such as the Presidency of the Republic, the Secretariat of Commerce and Industrial Development and the National Institute for Women. In recent years she has focused her career on projects related to education, cooperation and the environment. She launched the 'Karla Wheelock Foundation', as well as the educational project for young Mexicans 'My Summit, My Decision' and the expeditions 'Mexican Leaders to Antarctica' and 'Young Mexican Leaders to Antarctica'. She is the author of the books "The 7 Summits" (2010) and "The Third Pole: Ascension to Everest" (2011), as well as the winner of multiple awards and recognitions for her sports career. Wheelock speaks of overcoming, determination and personal development. Her motto, both in mountaineering and in life: "Your attitude determines your altitude." #WeLearnTogether
