REGULATIONS REGULATING LONG-TERM CARDS, LONG-TERM EU CARDS AND COMMUNITY CARDS First of all, the most important difference is in relation to the legal regime that regulates these Cards. Both the Long-Term Card and the Long-Term Card-EU are covered by the general regime, that is, they are governed by Organic Law 4/2000, of 11 January, on the rights and freedoms of foreigners in Spain and their social integration. Both authorisations grant their holder the right to reside and work in Spain indefinitely under the same conditions as Spaniards, which are renewed every five years. So, are the Long-Term Residence and the Long-Term EU Residence the same authorization? No. There are some differences between both residences. The Long-Term EU Residence has certain advantages over the "normal" long-term residence since, when you move to another country in the European Union, you will be able to prove your status as a long-term resident in Spain and obtain legal resident status in that country much more easily, and with hardly any complications, in the same way that if a long-term resident of the European Union moves to Spain, here we will also make it much easier for them to stay living and working in our country.
