Tommaso Lupatelli Director of Interventional Radiology at ICC Istituto Clinico Cardiologico di Roma guest on the Wedding House program on the TV channel La Sposa talks about how to treat Uterine Fibroids. Uterine Fibroids are a predominantly benign tumor, with a high incidence in the female population, which can also appear at a young age. For this reason, as suggested by Dr. Lupatelli, it is important to have frequent check-ups at least once a year with the gynecologist, in order to prevent any complications that this pathology entails. Inside the ICC, the Doctor uses the embolization technique to treat uterine fibroids. This recent technique, already widely used in Anglo-Saxon countries, has recently been spreading in Italy as a replacement or aid to traditional laparoscopic surgical techniques. There are many advantages for those who decide to undergo this type of surgery, including a short hospital stay and a quick return to work. Through embolization, the uterine arteries that feed the fibroid are occluded, thus reducing the devascularized tumor. Another advantage is for women who want to face pregnancy, in fact through embolization fertility can be maintained, and the number and size of fibroids can be reduced to favor traditional surgery.
