The main problem is the clutch and its weak springs. The slave cylinder and the release bearing are combined into a single capricious unit. It can last 150 thousand, or only 50. Off-road, the cardan suffers. Renault offers to buy an expensive "shaft plus crosspieces" kit, but good mechanics who know how to change crosspieces and balance everything on the stand are still hard to find. Imbalance harms the entire transmission, and due to broken crosspieces, the cardan can break. CV joints last about 200 thousand. The clutch on cars of the first two years of production was glitchy. The oil level in the gearbox and transfer case requires an unscheduled check and renewal of these fluids every 70-75 thousand. The suspension can withstand impact. The struts and bushings of the front stabilizer last from 50 to 70 thousand km, ball joints, rear shock absorbers, rear wheel bearings and rear stabilizer struts will run more than 100 thousand. In both, if the timing belt breaks, the pistons are guaranteed to bend the valves. The "two" is much more popular, although it has more weak points. The most delicate phase regulator clutches often die at 80 thousand. Listen to how the engine works: when hot, there should be no diesel crackling from under the hood. Another problem is early clogging of oil scraper rings. If the mileage is 150 thousand, and the oil appetite has increased alarmingly - these are clogged rings. The 1.6 engine has a longer service life, and fewer problems with it, but many are common with the 2.0: dying crankshaft sensors, crankcase ventilation overgrown with dirt and an air filter that is too small, weak rollers of the drive belt of attachments, a valve cover sweating oil, throttle body gaskets. In 2015, instead of the "Renault" 1.6, they began to install the "Nissan" H4M, assembled in Togliatti. This is a good option with a reliable timing chain drive and the absence of hydraulic compensators. Of the minor troubles - a burnt-out gasket of the inlet pipe and the right engine mount, which breaks with or without reason. The 1.5-liter turbodiesel loves good fuel, from the "swill" the piezo injectors die after 15-20 thousand kilometers. Oil service is mandatory every 7-10 thousand, otherwise the turbocharger cartridge will have to be updated long before the planned 150-200 thousand. In the worst case, the old oil will kill the connecting rod bearings. The restyled cars after 2015 have a slightly different diesel engine. The series is the same, but the power is 109 "horses" instead of ninety, variable turbine geometry and a particulate filter. There are no complaints about these two systems. And even the injectors are stronger than those of the predecessor. But the high-pressure fuel pump, on the contrary, is weaker, but still lasts 150 thousand kilometers. So, which Duster to choose? All-wheel drive or front-wheel drive, automatic or manual? If you are not going to climb through mud and gullies, it is better to take the simplest option: 1.6, front-wheel drive and mechanics. Such a device will not be demolished.
