Both the common platform of this car, the Peugeot 308, and the 3008, which I tested, were awarded the prestigious European Car of the Year award. But will a used car please its owner? Because in the search for the best car, specialists representing different European countries evaluate the features of a new car, but it is impossible to assess what it will be like in long-term use. I attended the launch of the new Peugeot 3008 back in 2016 - you can find this review online. I could only agree with my colleagues - the crossover that replaced the predecessor of the same name, but with a one-volume body, delighted not only with its extravagant exterior and interior appearance, but also with fun driving characteristics. So, just like the 308 hatchback, which won an award in 2013, the 3008 was recognized as the best European car of the year for good reason. And it appeared more casually assembled than the debut 3008. By the way, I found the same assembly defects in a used car. But the smaller crossover turned out to be of higher quality and I still have great memories of it. Except for that unusual interior concept with a small steering wheel, which the French christened i-Cockpit, and which first debuted in the 208 model back in 2012. But the debuting "3008" has both a digital screen and a flat top and bottom steering wheel - the unusualness has increased even more, and I doubt the comfort. In other words, no matter how much I drove this car after that, I never got used to the small steering wheel and especially the handling after driving off the asphalt or on a slippery road. And to talk about the comparison of the common platforms "3008" and "5008", of course, the latter model, which is almost 20 centimeters longer, will be a better choice when you need a larger trunk and a more spacious interior - the "5008" could have even 7 seats. And technically, both cars are practically identical - the same engines, the same transmissions. It is true that only the 3008 could have a plug-in hybrid version - this was not offered for the larger model. The Peugeot 3008 drives surprisingly maturely and quietly, which also contributed to its good rating. Even the basic petrol 1.2l and diesel 1.6l engines (both with 120hp each) were powerful enough for a city machine, and those who wanted even better dynamics could choose more powerful versions, which were topped by a plug-in engine that reached 300hp hybrid with additional electric motor driving the rear wheels. Of course, the cheaper versions were much more popular, especially the tested version with an economical diesel engine - the consumption shown on the computer of this car was just 5l/100 km. True, they would be 1.5-2 l/100 km higher if the car was equipped with an automatic transmission - unlike other manufacturers, Peugeot did not offer a two-clutch automatic gearbox, so the hydraulic transmission of the Japanese manufacturer Aisin, although it works smoothly, but significantly increases fuel consumption. However, there are no major technical complaints about this model - traditionally, for diesel engines, the AdBlue system and particulate filter begin to wear out over time, three-cylinder gasoline engines are less reliable than larger 1.6-liter engines, and for 1.5-liter turbodiesel engines, time is important (every 80 thousand kilometers) to change the timing chain.
