With this information, the driver can know if the engine is within the ideal rotation for the speed and if this is compatible with the next maneuver that the driver intends to make in the next few seconds. It is possible to install a tachometer in a car that does not have this factory accessory, but you need to know where to collect the engine signal to make the marker work correctly. All universal tachometers have at least 3 wires, the negative one that is connected to the car's ground, the positive one that is connected to the car's signal 15 and the green wire that is connected to the wire that has the pulsating negative signal that increases the number of pulses as the engine rotation increases. Some rev counters also have a lighting wire that is connected to the car's turn signal wire, causing the lighting of the new car's display to turn on together with the lighting of the original dashboard. All of these wires are relatively easy to find in the car, except for the negative pulsating signal, which varies with each car model. To find this rev counter signal wire, there are basically 3 ways that vary according to the car. If the car has electronic injection, then the ECU injection control unit itself must have an output wire for the tachometer (original rev counter on the dashboard). This wire must be connected to the green wire of the rev counter. To find this wire, you must analyze the electrical diagram and identify this wire directly in the ECU connector. In carbureted cars, the rev counter signal can be found in the ignition coil, which will have 3 connections: 1 output for the spark plug distributor, 1 positive input connected to the car's signal 15, and 1 negative input coming from the platinum or electronic ignition module. This last negative from the coil is the correct signal that we must connect to the green wire of the rev counter. If the car, truck, tractor or bulldozer has a diesel engine, then it is not possible to connect the tachometer signal in the previous ways. In this case, it will be necessary to disassemble the alternator and solder a wire directly to one of the stator wires that is directly connected to the rectifier bridge. As the alternator rotates, the stator pin will generate a negative pulse to inform the number of revolutions per minute given by the alternator and consequently by the engine. One of these ways will be compatible with the vehicle in which you need to install the tachometer. I hope I have made it clear how to identify each one of them and I am happy that you have followed me this far. Thanks. The most complete course in Brazil, without any fuss.
