He brought his heavy cannon battery to the banks of the Volga: Dr. Wigand Wüster, now a lawyer, was then the 22-year-old battery commander. Shortly before the 6th Army was surrounded by the Russians in Stalingrad, he went on vacation. He then had himself flown in to join his troops. He fought like this until the last day in 1943, the bitter end of the 6th Army. After that, he was imprisoned for many years in Russia. He has written down his experiences in a book, with self-painted pictures.
