In late spring and early summer 1953, mass protests took place in East Germany that nearly resulted in the overthrow of the government and the country's transition to NATO... The "bottom line" of the events of that time is as follows. The measures taken by the East German government to increase production standards in production, along with an increase in prices for basic food products, caused growing protests by workers at industrial enterprises. They reached their peak on June 15-17, 1953, during the presidency of Friedrich Wilhelm Reinhold Pieck, one of the founders of the German Communist Party and the Spartacus Union, in the GDR. When the number of protesters became significant, government and party institutions and police stations began to be seized. The demands put forward included not only economic but also political issues, such as the resignation of the government, the withdrawal of Soviet troops, the annexation of the GDR to the FRG, the return of the "eastern territories" (transferred to Poland after 1945), etc. Many speakers at the rallies openly bragged about their past service in the Wehrmacht, and even in the SS. True, they did not call for an unambiguous revenge against Hitlerism, but were content for now with the “palliative” demand for “reunification with the FRG.” Where the main “heroes of the Reich” felt quite comfortable and even continued to serve their new masters from the Decline as part of the Bundeswehr and West German special services. Due to the obvious inability of the GDR authorities to cope with the unrest, the administration of the Group of Soviet Occupation Forces in Germany intervened in the situation. After tank units were brought into the cities with the most pronounced centers of unrest, the latter quickly began to subside. The situation finally stabilized after the GDR received prompt and significant economic aid. Naturally, in the presentation of the Decline and liberal Russian sources, these events are interpreted exclusively in the categories of “brutal suppression by Soviet occupation forces of a mass uprising of the population of East Germany, thirsting for a quick introduction to freedom and democracy.” Support me on Boosty: https://boosty.to/ivanzaitsevskii My VK: https://vk.com/publiczaitsevskogo My Telegram: https://t.me/IvanZaitsevskii #GDR #IvanZaitsevsky #History #Germany #EastGermany #WestGermany #FRG #ThirdReich #NaziGermany #USSR #SovietUnion
