Morning press conference, from the National Palace. Tuesday, November 26, 2024 President Claudia Sheinbaum. 00:00 Broadcast begins 13:27 Press conference begins 14:09 Letter to Donald Trump, president-elect of the United States 21:21 Advances in the Health sector 50:41 Questions and answers session 1:46:21 Mexican Humanism We share the letter addressed to the president-elect of the United States, Donald Trump. It is not with threats or tariffs that migration or fentanyl consumption in that country will be addressed; cooperation and understanding are necessary. In response to the statement of Monday, November 25, we note that migration to the United States has been reduced by 75 percent from December 2023 to November 2024, as a result of Mexico's comprehensive policy on the migration phenomenon. Half of those who arrive at the border do so by appointment authorized by the U.S. government itself through the Border and Customs Patrol (CBP). Clearly, we must jointly integrate another model of labor mobility that addresses the causes of migration. During 2024, the Mexican Armed Forces and the prosecutors of our country have seized tons of drugs, more than 10,000 weapons, and arrested more than 15,000 people related to drug trafficking. We are also advancing in legislative processes to establish the production, distribution, and marketing of fentanyl and other synthetic drugs as a serious crime. International collaboration is urgent, since chemical precursors for the manufacture of synthetic drugs enter Canada, the United States, and Mexico illegally from Asian countries. On the other hand, 70 percent of the illegal weapons seized in Mexico come from the United States. Weapons are not produced in Mexico, nor are synthetic drugs consumed here. Unfortunately, we are the ones who are killed. It is not acceptable to impose a tax on Mexico's main exporters to the United States, such as General Motors, Stellantis, or Ford Motor Company, companies that arrived on Mexican soil 80 years ago. This would cause inflation and unemployment in both nations. One tariff will be followed by another in response, until we put common companies at risk. The main affected parties would be the consumers of the United States. Without a doubt, the strength of North America lies in the commercial partnership to be more competitive. Canada, the United States, and Mexico know that the USMCA has been beneficial for the regional economy. Dialogue is the path to understanding. If we put collaboration at the center to thoroughly address these challenges, we will find comprehensive solutions. We trust that the teams of Mexico and the incoming United States government will meet soon; we seek dialogue and we will find it. We are a great country; free, independent, and sovereign. We negotiate as equals and there is no subordination. We complement each other as economies. We work in unity with Mexican business. We will soon present the Mexico Plan, that is, the shared prosperity plan, which aims to replace various products that we import from Asia and other countries to strengthen our production chains. We invite the markets to take things calmly; we work together and there will be dialogue with the United States. In Mexico there is a government, there are people and we are a united country. Today we will send a letter to the Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau, to detail how in Mexico we prioritize the T-MEC over trade with China. We present the new platform to ensure the supply of medical prescriptions in public health institutions: recetacompleta.gob.mx. The Ministry of Health will begin a study to identify risk factors among the population; in six years, the prevalence of obesity, diabetes and hypertension will be reduced by up to 10 percent.
