To try to help you better understand how a grounding scheme works, we have developed a model to show in practice how it all happens. There are basically three grounding schemes in NBR-5410: TT, TN, IT. We will now detail the TT scheme. Many say that the TT grounding scheme is not efficient, but this is not true. Every grounding scheme works very well if executed correctly. The most important aspect of the grounding system is to ensure automatic disconnection of the power supply in the event of a ground fault. If it efficiently fulfills this function, then it can be considered a good grounding system. In the TT system, we must be aware of the requirement of NBR-5410 regarding compliance with the inequality, which is nothing more than ensuring disconnection of the power supply before a person can be exposed to dangerous voltage. Another requirement is the use of IDR in all circuits, which also has the same objective, which is to ensure automatic disconnection of the power supply in the event of a ground fault. We know that in the TT system, the fault currents are very low and the circuit breakers cannot detect this fault and disconnect it, so the use of IDR is essential. Another important factor in the TT scheme is that in the event of a fault, the current returns to the source through the ground, that is, the ground is the conducting path of this current back to the source, so this grounding scheme needs to be executed in such a way that it does not deteriorate over time in order to always be able to guarantee that this fault current has a return path to the source.
