Under the title "Under the Swastika", the LWL Media Center is publishing a film documentary that provides direct insights into the everyday history of the Nazi era in Westphalia-Lippe. For this purpose, more than 200 private film documents were viewed, of which around 60 films were included in the film documentary. The film can already be seen in its ten chapters on this channel. It can now be viewed in its entirety here. A comprehensive booklet with background information on the film project and the amateur films on which it is based can be downloaded here: https://www.lwl-medienzentrum.de/medi... Amateur films are an exciting source of information on the regional history of the 'Third Reich'. They not only show how public life was reshaped in line with Nazi ideology, but also how National Socialism made its way into private life. Amateur films often provide staged insights into everyday life, but they also open up new perspectives on key questions: How did the Nazi dictatorship penetrate so quickly into the last village? How did people's everyday lives change? And what effects did the Second World War have on the region? The documentary approaches these questions in ten thematic chapters. They are devoted to family and leisure life, public festivals and celebrations, but also to the self-staging of the party and its subdivisions, such as the Hitler Youth and the Reich Labor Service. The depressing conclusion is formed by footage of the war in occupied Europe and of the war-torn homeland.
