The story of the change in Amru bin Hisham's attitude illustrates how powerful the influence of the Messenger of Allah's preaching and how a person's beliefs can change profoundly. Although he was initially respected as Abu Hakam, he was eventually remembered as a fierce enemy of Islamic preaching. Even though he still has a brotherly relationship, between Abu Hakam and the Messenger of Allah, may God bless him and grant him peace. Abu al-Hakam opposes the preaching of the Prophet, peace and blessings of God be upon him, by any means, be it through violent actions or through war. He was one of the figures who was most hostile to the Messenger of Allah, may God bless him and grant him peace, at that time. Because of Abu Hakam's stubborn resistance, he finally got the nickname Abu Jahl, which means the father of stupidity or a stupid person. This epithet reflects his indiscretion in opposing the truth brought by the Prophet Muhammad sallallahu 'alaihi wasallam. The word "stupid" pinned on Amr bin Hisham does not fully reflect his lack of intelligence in the true sense. In fact, he is a smart and intelligent figure. However, this nickname appeared because of his harsh attitude against the teachings of Islam and the preaching of the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace. Amr bin Hisham is the most persistent person in denying the messages of Islam. Despite having extensive knowledge, he chose to oppose the truth brought by the Messenger of Allah, may God bless him and grant him peace. According to a narration, Abu Jahl actually believed that Prophet Muhammad, may God bless him and grant him peace, was the last Prophet sent by God. However, his pride hindered his steps to confess until the end of his life. As in the case of Iblis, even though he knows that God is the creator of everything, he is still arrogant and refuses His command to bow down to Prophet Adam 'alaihissalam.
