UKRAINE WAR: ZELENSKII FURGED! Scholz opens "Pandora's box" with Putin phone call Scholz has not spoken to Putin for two years. Almost 1,000 days after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, he is now resuming contact. His goal: negotiations. Kiev reacts angrily. Berlin/Moscow/Kiev (dpa) - Chancellor Olaf Scholz has angered Ukraine with his first phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin in almost two years. "In my opinion, Olaf's call opens Pandora's box," said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in his evening video message. Berlin had informed Kiev beforehand, but this has now made further talks possible. With his call, Scholz has fulfilled Putin's long-held wish to reduce Russia's isolation and begin talks that will ultimately lead to nothing. Putin has done this for decades, said Zelensky. "This allowed Russia not to change its policy, to do nothing, and that is precisely what led to this war," the President stressed. In his conversation with the Kremlin chief, Scholz called on Putin to end the war of aggression against Ukraine and to withdraw his troops. At the same time, the Chancellor urged Putin "to negotiate with Ukraine with the aim of a just and lasting peace," said government spokesman Steffen Hebestreit after the hour-long conversation. He also reaffirmed Germany's unwavering determination to support Ukraine in its defensive struggle against Russian aggression for as long as necessary. #ukraine #russia #scholz #putin #selenskyj #netzreporter Subscribe to the WELT Netzreporter Channel / dienetzreporter WELT Nachrichtensender Channel / weltvideotv WELT DOKU Channel / weltdoku WELT Podcast Channel / weltpodcast The WELT news livestream http://bit.ly/2fwuMPg The top news on WELT.de http://bit.ly/2rQQD9Q The media library on WELT.de http://bit.ly/2Iydxv8 WELT Nachrichtensender on Instagram https://bit.ly/IGWELTTV WELT on Instagram http://bit.ly/2X1M7Hk On our own behalf: Due to the high volume of irrelevant and offensive posts, we are currently unable to accept any more comments.
