The USA has lifted the range restriction in certain areas, said the SPD politician at the end of the summit of the 20 leading industrial and emerging countries in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, adding: "I am against us doing the same thing." He still believes it is right to deliver weapons to Ukraine "always in convoy with other friends and allies," said the Chancellor. He must ensure that the war does not lead to an escalation between Russia and NATO. "At the same time, however, the question of which weapons you deliver and what can be done with them always remains a decision that you yourself have to take responsibility for. And I say: I think that is wrong." He could make such a decision as German Chancellor, "because we are by far the biggest supporter of Ukraine in Europe and will remain so." According to media reports, the USA recently allowed Ukraine to use ATACMS missiles with a range of up to 300 kilometers against targets in Russia. This is seen as a response to the suspected deployment of North Korean soldiers on the side of Moscow.
