WHAT I EXPLAIN IN THIS VIDEO CAN COMPLEMENT BUT NOT REPLACE THE DRIVING LESSONS YOU CAN TAKE IN A DRIVING SCHOOL. IF YOU ALREADY HAVE A LICENSE, WATCH THE VIDEO TO GET ANY USEFUL ADVICE. VIDEO LINK STEERING WHEEL: • THE STEERING WHEEL: HERE'S HOW TO TURN IT CORRECTLY... U-TURN Today we're going to look at U-turning. I'll explain it to you step by step, and then, at the end of the video, show you how to do it correctly, with all the steps, and at an appropriate speed. Before performing the U-turn maneuver, we need to check that we're not in one of those cases where U-turning is prohibited. For example, don't do it if there's no visibility, or at or near intersections. Obviously, don't do it if you're on a one-way street, or a two-way street but with a continuous center line. Obviously, do not do this on motorways or in tunnels. It can normally be done on two-lane, two-way roads with a discontinuous centre line. But how do you make a U-turn? Before starting the manoeuvre, you should have stopped by pulling over close to the right edge, not further, with the right turn signal on. Do not forget that the indicators are not optional, but are an integral part of all the precautions to be taken to correctly carry out the manoeuvres. Also remember that the manoeuvre must be carried out while remaining on the roadway, therefore without going up on pavements, parking spaces, i.e. car parks, cycle paths, verges, etc... And that to make the U-turn with the least number of manoeuvres possible, it will be appropriate to exploit the available space as much as possible. But... do not risk, by exploiting the space too much, going beyond, and thus hitting walls, parked vehicles, etc... So carry out the manoeuvres always maintaining a safety margin. The maneuver must also be performed with a certain speed, because, during the execution, the vehicle will occupy a good part of the roadway, thus resulting in an obstacle for other vehicles in transit. The most important thing of the whole maneuver is the last one, the check. Doing it, will make the maneuver safe... and the examiner will certainly be satisfied. Before starting, therefore, we must check that no other vehicles are approaching, neither from in front, nor from behind, neither from the right, nor from the left. And watch out for cyclists, always difficult to see. The check must be done by looking in front and obviously behind with the rear-view mirrors, but it will absolutely not be enough. The mirrors have blind spots that we will be able to cover only with a direct look, that is, by turning our head. If vehicles are approaching, we will wait, giving them priority. When the road is clear, we can start, stopping before leaving the roadway. And then? Again the same 4 things seen a moment ago, that is, turn the wheels, but this time to the right, put it in reverse, no longer in first, activate the right turn signal, that is, the same direction in which the wheels are turned. If you should then have doubts about which indicator to turn on, think about the direction in which the wheels are turned. If the wheels are turned to the right you will turn on the right indicator, if they are turned to the left, you will turn on the left indicator. And finally check that there are no vehicles approaching to which we will eventually have to give way, and to do so we will certainly have to turn our heads, to the right and to the left. If everything is calm, we can set off, but carefully checking the area behind the vehicle, and to do so we will have to turn around looking back, and also check the area next to the vehicle, and to do so we will use the mirrors but we will also turn with our heads to cover especially those areas that with the mirror cannot be seen and also to have a greater sense of the distance from any obstacles and lines. When reversing, we will keep both hands on the steering wheel; it will not be necessary to place the right one behind the passenger seat and the left one on the upper central part of the steering wheel as is done for prolonged reversing. We will stop once we have reached the edge of the road, taking care not to go beyond it. We will then prepare the car to set off again, doing for the third and last time what we have already seen, that is: we will turn the wheels to the left this time, put it in first gear, activate the left direction indicator and finally check carefully that we can set off, observing the road and verifying that no vehicles are coming from the right or the left. If there are no vehicles to give priority to, we can set off, paying attention to the release of the clutch and the technique with which we turn the steering wheel. #reversing #drivingtest #license
