BBC News Brasil visited Manaquiri (AM) and Pires Ferreira (CE), two cities with the same level of development, to understand how they reached the extremes of the education ranking in Brazil. Manaquiri, which received a score of 2.5 on the Basic Education Development Index (IDEB) in the initial years of elementary school in 2023, is facing yet another year of extreme drought that prevents most students from attending school. Pires Ferreira, which received a score of 10 on the IDEB, takes advantage of the resources distributed by the Ceará government based on education and a sense of community that connects teachers and families. But can the IDEB really capture student learning in a riverside city like Manaquiri? And would good education be able to change the reality of Pires Ferreira, one of the poorest cities in Ceará? Check out the report by journalists Vitor Tavares and Vitor Serrano Text report in Manaquiri: https://www.bbc.com/portuguese/articl... Did you like it? Subscribe to the BBC News Brasil channel!
