We visited the Taquara Farm in Barra do Piraí - RJ. It belonged to Comendador João Pereira da Silva who arrived in the state of Rio de Janeiro around 1800, together with the Baron of Rio Bonito. The main house was probably built in 1830. The Taquara Farm was initially called Fazenda da Nova Prosperidade. It became known and ended up receiving the name Taquara by the slaves, due to the abundance of taquara (thin bamboo) found on the property. It still belongs to the descendants of the Comendador.
