It was supposed to be a cozy poker evening among men in Benni's (Paul Bühlmann) dingy apartment. One man is still missing from the group, namely Albert (Jörg Schneider), when suddenly he gets a call from his wife. She has thrown her husband out of the apartment, can no longer stand his hypochondria and perfectionism and wants a divorce. Benni relents and takes his dejected friend in when he finally joins the poker game. At the beginning, the men's household works perfectly: Albert, a brilliant househusband, transforms the disgusting bachelor pad into a proper dwelling that could be photographed for "Schöner Wohnen" and conjures up a delicious meal for his friend every evening. But Benni is increasingly annoyed by his friend's "picking and choosing". And after a disastrous candlelight dinner with two nice neighbors, war in the flat is announced. Any means are permitted. "The Odd Couple" by the successful American author Neil Simon is one of the most popular boulevard comedies of all time. In the 1968 film version, the mismatched friends are played by Walter Matthau and Jack Lemmon, while Uwe Ochsenknecht and Heiner Lauterbach appeared on stage in Berlin as the "odd couple". SF DRS recorded the Swiss German dialect version in May 1990 under the television direction of Thomas Hostettler. Franz Matter was responsible for the stage production in the Bernhard Theater.
