Turkish bus manufacturers and commercial vehicle brands left their mark on Busworld 2023, held in Brussels, the capital of Belgium. In terms of the number of companies, Turkey was the country with the largest participation in this fair. The fair, which is organized every two years, is known as the world's largest bus fair. This fair was suspended for a while due to the pandemic. Turkish companies exhibited their latest models and technologies at Busworld 2023. The innovations of Turkish brands attracted great attention from visitors and industry professionals. I spoke with BMC Chairman Fuat Tosyalı, Karsan CEO Okan Baş and Anadolu Isuzu Manager Hakan Kefoğlu at Busworld. They explained what innovations they came to the fair with. While BMC declared 2024, which will be celebrating its 60th anniversary, as a year of transformation, it is preparing to meet its customers with a brand new BMC, especially focused on electrification, with its investments in innovation and collaborations with start-ups. Having started the countdown to return to the future, BMC ignited the signal flare of transformation with the technologies developed especially for Procity 12M EV and Neocity 8.5M EV electric buses, as well as the new generation buses it exhibited at Busworld Brussels 2023 Bus Fair. BMC Board Chairman Fuat Tosyalı said, “We are working for a new BMC and the investment we have made for this in the last 2 years has approached 3.6 billion TL. We plan to invest approximately 10 billion TL in 2024. Just as BMC, as one of Turkey’s most established industrial establishments in the automotive sector, has previously achieved firsts in the sector, today, thanks to the innovation-focused investments we have initiated, it will once again be a pioneer in the sector with its new generation commercial vehicles by undertaking a major transformation.” In addition to Turkish brands, the largest participation came from China. Chinese brands, especially BYD, attracted attention with their electric models at large stands. In addition to Chinese brands, Iveco, known for its bus and minibus production, MAN and Mercedes from Germany, Irizar from Spain, and Skoda from the Czech Republic were among the other participants. In addition, many Turkish companies from Bursa participated in the fair. These companies take models such as the Mercedes Vito, Sprinter and Volkswagen Transporter, modify them and make interior decorations.
