This week Norbert is seeing red, because today it's all about the Turkano Red Cichlids, which are endemic to Lake Turkana in Kenya. For red cichlids, this species is rather small and very peaceful. They can therefore even be kept with larger African tetras, cichlids and catfish, provided the aquarium has enough space. The fish are omnivores and practice complex brood care, during which time they protect the clutch and the young fish intensively. When setting up the aquarium, care should be taken to ensure that there are enough hiding places made of stones and roots, as well as robust aquarium plants.
