Farmer Tuomas Nummela has been farming his approximately 200-hectare family farm in Kärkölä since 2018. The farm and its fields have been owned by the Nummela family since 1796. He is the eighth owner of the Ala-Nummela farm. The farm grows a wide variety of different plant species: winter wheat, winter rapeseed, caraway, peas, malting barley and, for the first time in 2024, sugar beet. The current owner manages his fields independently. Nummela receives help from his father, who transferred the farm to his son a few years ago. The owners of the farm have had a common principle from generation to generation: leaving the fields in better condition for the next generation. The farm also aims for sustainable and responsible farming. Fertilization is key to maintaining the good growth condition of the fields.
