In its literal meaning, it is derived from the root وكل (Ve-ke-le) taken from the word agency. It is a person's leaving someone else, relying on them and taking them in their place, making them their own deputy and representative. Its literal meaning and its religious meaning are very close to each other. In religious terms; it is the sincere attachment of the heart to Allah (cc) in order to benefit from worldly and otherworldly affairs and to be protected from harm. Trust is the person's acceptance of Allah as their representative. It is the entrusting and leaving their own affairs to Allah, who is their representative. Trust is the highest level of trust and confidence. The servant reaches tawakkul by believing with complete faith that Allah Almighty governs and regulates all creation, and that all kinds of benefit and harm, granting and forbidding are with Allah’s permission. Tawakkul is the product of thoroughly knowing Allah’s attributes such as knowledge, mercy, power and wisdom. When one knows that Allah’s knowledge is perfect and that He encompasses everything, big and small, that has happened or will happen, with this knowledge, one puts one’s trust in Allah alone: “Our Lord encompasses all things with His knowledge, and we put our trust in Allah alone.” (7/A’raf, 89) Tawakkul is based on two principles: 1. Trusting in Allah before doing the deed 2. Being pleased with Allah after the deed has taken place Tawakkul is a state born of the assurance in the heart that what Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala wills will happen and that nothing will happen that Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala wills, even if all people try to prevent it. This situation requires the heart to trust in Allah, to be at peace with Allah and to trust in Him, to know with certainty that Allah is sufficient for what it has relied on. The word ‘deputy’ is sometimes explained with the word ‘kefil’. The truth is that deputy has a more general meaning. Reliance on Allah is a matter of faith. A person relies on Allah in proportion to his faith: Verses on reliance, verses related to reliance “And let the believers put their trust in Allah alone.” (3/Aal-i Imran, 160) “And put their trust in Allah alone, if you are believers.” (5/Maidah, 23) “Indeed, I have put my trust in Allah, my Lord and your Lord. He is the One Who holds every moving creature by its forelock. Indeed, my Lord is on a straight path.” (11/Hud, 56) If they turn away, say: “Allah is sufficient for me. There is no god but Him. In Him I put my trust. He is the Lord of the Great Throne.” (9/At-Tawbah, 129) “Whoever puts his trust in Allah, He is sufficient for him.” (65/At-Talaq, 3) “The believers are those whose hearts tremble when Allah is mentioned, and when His verses are recited to them they increase their faith, and in their Lord they put their trust.” (8/Anfal, 2) “When you have made a decision, put your trust in Allah. Allah loves those who put their trust.” (3/Aal-i-Imran, 159) “Our Lord! In You alone do we put our trust, and to You alone do we turn, and to You is our return.” (60/Al-Mumtahina, 4) “Moses said: “O my people! If you have believed in Allah and submitted to Him, then put your trust in Him.” (10/Yunus, 84) The scope of tawakkul 1. Knowing Allah 2. Holding on to the causes 3. The steadfastness of monotheism in the heart 4. The heart turning only to Allah; being dependent on Allah in love, fear, hope and trust, the heart finding tranquility in Allah 5. Having good thoughts about Allah 6. The submission of man to Allah 7. The servant leaving all his affairs to Allah 8. The servant being pleased with Allah IMPORTANT SECTIONS 00:00 What is tawakkul? 02:42 Tawakkul that pleases Allah 03:53 Tawakkul is based on two principles 07:00 Tawakkul is trusting in Allah, having good thoughts about Allah. 11:10 Scholars' definitions of tawakkul 12:17 Tawakkul is a matter of faith.
