In the US, sovereigns are already a large group and in the Netherlands it is also growing steadily. Sovereigns are people who want to live independently, without participating in the laws and regulations that a state has established. So they also do not want to pay taxes. A lifestyle that has existed in the US since the 1960s, but in the Netherlands it mainly took off after all the corona measures. Milou Brand points to an article that can be read in the daily newspaper Trouw this weekend about the Dutch autonomous people who are moving to Paraguay. The Dutch group is small compared to that in the US, where presidential candidate Donald Trump does take the political wishes of these people into account. Actually paradoxical, because the sovereigns live without authority. Who are these people and how does Trump listen to this group? Our guest is Dr. Luuk de Boer from the University of Groningen. He is researching both the American and the Dutch sovereign autonomous people. Historian Dr. Joost Welten has also joined us, who specializes in sovereign princes, such as our own royal family with Willem I (1813-1840). 00:50 Milou Brand and the people of Paraguay. 02:23 Italy and its microstate. 05:12 Who determines what a state is? 06:48 How do you start your own state? 08:18 Who were the Capitol stormers? 09:46 Popular politicians among autonomists. 11:24 Our sovereign prince Willem I. 13:05 More prosperity, more rules. 15:12 Libertarians in the US. 18:00 Living off the grid. 21:04 How do you become a sovereign? 23:10 How many autonomists are we talking about? 25:50 Trump never loses. 28:03 Democracy was once an ugly word 30:30 Poetry by Milou Brand (Jules Deelder) _____ Source video Donald Trump: WBNS 10TV #autonomous #sovereigns #trump ► THE JORTCAST In this series of podcasts, Jort Kelder offers radiotherapy against hypes and hysteria, based on a conversation from the broadcast of Dr. Kelder and Co.
