On October 24, 1944, the Allied troops launch the attack on Zuid-Beveland. Their plan is to attack this part of Zeeland from two sides. As with every attack, the Canadians begin by shelling every place where they think there are Germans for a long time. Only then do they enter the actual battle. The battle takes place under harsh conditions: an exceptionally wet autumn and the sucking Zeeland clay. That same day, the first Canadians cross the Kreekrakdam and prepare for the conquest of the actual Zuid-Beveland. The following days, they begin with their tried and tested recipe: extensively shelling the area to be conquered. Hoping to destroy as many German positions as possible.
