João, who used to be employed, is now self-employed. He used to have three trucks, including a trailer, but decided to trade them all in for a VUC (Urban Cargo Vehicle). His motivation? He explains it in this interview. To be closer to home and reduce operating costs. This change has given him a better quality of life, and he is able to support his family with the income he has earned. The details of this transformation are in this interview. Before, João faced high costs to maintain the trailer, and the financial result at the end of the month was not worth it. He ended up spending 90 days away from home, which was too much for someone with a wife and children. Now, with the VUC, João opts for urban and regional freight, but also does long-distance transportation with his Iveco Daily. He lives in São Paulo. He does freight for retailers in Brás, transporting fabrics. He also picks up moving services and goes to Maceió a lot, where he has another house. The VUC, he says, reduces his time on the road, reduces physical and mental fatigue, and increases safety when traveling. He does the math accurately and prefers fractional freight, which, according to his experience, is more profitable. Despite earning 30% less than when he worked with the truck, João believes that the difference is offset by the time he spends with his family and the less worry about the larger truck. He spends less on maintenance, diesel and tolls. He spends more time with his family and is happy as can be.
