- Treasures in the Dry Zone of Yenangchaung We often imagine Myanmar’s abundance, with its lush forests, abundant gold and four mighty rivers. However, more than 10 million of the country’s 54 million people live in the scorching hot dry zone. The Dry Zone stretches across the central plains of Myanmar, surrounded by mountains to the east and west, and includes parts of Mandalay, Magway and Sagaing. It covers an area of ​​more than 75,000 square kilometres and 13% of the country’s land area. The people of Myanmar here cherish their water as if it were gold, and on this trip, we will explore their rare gold source - SOURCES OF TREASURE IN THE YENANGYAUNG DRY ZONE. It's commonly understood that Myanmar is a land abundant with resources, especially in reference to images of its forests, its gold resources, and its four main rivers. And yet, over ten million people of Myanmar's total population of 54 million reside in a zone where “dry spells” are frequent. The Dry Zone of central Myanmar is surrounded by mountains to the east and west…and covers townships spanning from the regions of Magway and Sagaing, to parts of Mandalay region. The Dry Zone forms 13% of the country…and covers over 75,000 square kilometers. For this particular population of Myanmar, water can be likened to “a golden treasure”. On this trip, we journey into “the heart of the hot zone” to explore their sources of “metaphorical gold”.
