A few days ago I was riding a motorbike with some good friends, on a beautiful road with the Irati river on one side and a green cliff on the other, curves of all kinds, good asphalt, little traffic… you might laugh if I tell you something, but the thing is… I felt alive! I assure you that travelling on a motorbike is one of the most rewarding things you can do… and there are no excuses! These 12+1 that I bring you are of no use to me… I am not making this video to tell you how wonderful it is to travel on a motorbike… all of us who ride motorbikes know that! It is intended to leave you with no excuses not to do it or not to do it more often… I insist, there is no excuse! Before starting I want to dedicate this video to my friends, I name them in the order in which they appear in the WhatsApp group, “Summer in the Pyrenees”: Javier, the three “Fernandos”, José Antonio, Miguel and also Juan Carlos who couldn’t come… what you missed! Thank you very much, friends, for some extraordinary days, with a good atmosphere and incredible routes through the Pyrenees. You are good friends and also top-level motorcyclists… without a doubt some are better than others, but doing more than 2,000 km on roads of all kinds, with ravines, curves of all kinds, a lot of traffic at times, occasionally slippery and wet surfaces… and without a single incident! It shows that you are some cracks. I have to highlight Javier and his famous “W” lines… a topic that could be the subject of an exclusive video. Let’s get down to business! These are the most common excuses I have heard for not travelling by motorbike… they can all be fixed. But yes, the curse of 12+1 haunts me… 1. I don’t have a motorbike! Don’t you have a motorbike? You’re worth it! Because now there are motorbikes that meet the “three Bs” of good, pretty and cheap. But that’s not the end. You have an option, rent! Renting a motorbike can cost you from €40 to €200 a day, depending on the type of motorbike you want, but also on the time of year and the number of days you rent it for… In short: It’s not an excuse. 2. I don’t have money. This is a tricky thing, I’m not going to tell you that you can travel by motorbike when you can’t make ends meet or you’re struggling to pay the mortgage, the rent or the kids’ school… I’m not going to trivialise a subject like this. Everyone knows their finances and their priorities. 3. My partner doesn’t like it. Here you have two options: Get your partner to like it or get him to let you have a couple of weekends a year for yourself… it’s not that big a deal! 4. Honestly, I don’t feel like it. Older people, like me, will remember an advert for a well-known brand of tonic in which a very pretty girl appeared and said that she didn't like tonic and the "handsome" guy on duty assured her: "That's because you haven't tried it enough." 5. I'm not good enough. This is no excuse... what do you mean you're not good enough? Choose a route that suits your tastes, of course, but also your partner's tastes if you're accompanied, your bike and your physique. 6. I don't have any travelling companions. It's certainly true that routes are more enjoyable when you're accompanied. This company includes having a passenger, going with other friends or both. You don't have any biker friends? My advice: change your friends! 7. My bike is not good for travelling. All bikes are good for travelling. You have to make long journeys of hundreds, even thousands of km! on a simple Vespino... a certain Nacho has crossed the whole of Morocco, you can see his videos. 8. I'm not in good physical shape. A good excuse… to get in shape! Travelling by motorbike is tiring, no doubt. 9. I don’t know where to go. You have a whole planet for yourself! You can choose from a 200 km round trip route to going around the world. There are loads of websites and clubs, for example, the Moto Club Mapfre, where there are hundreds of routes for all tastes, types of motorbikes and levels. And whole books, like those written by my good friend Gustavo Cuervo, for riding around Spain, Europe or other continents. 10. There’s no way I can carry luggage on my motorbike. Again, you have two options. One, buy side and tank bags so you can carry luggage and choose very carefully what you need. There are people who have gone around the world with 3 suitcases. Another option is to send the luggage to the hotel by some means. 11. My tyres are “dead”. You’re going to be the dead one if you don’t change them, whether you travel or not! We are now going into excuses that are not an excuse. If your tires are “dead” for going on a trip, they are dead for going to the bar on the corner… short trips are usually the most dangerous. 12. I don’t have any equipment. This is like the tires… the safety systems of your bike are the equipment you wear. Going around in jeans, with a “down jacket” and some sports shoes is not adequate equipment for doing hu
