Surah Al-Isra was revealed in Mecca. It consists of 111 verses. The name of the surah comes from the word اَلإسْرَاءُ (isra), which is used in the first verse and means “to walk by night.” This word describes the Prophet’s (pbuh) journey from the Masjid al-Haram in Mecca to the Masjid al-Aqsa in Jerusalem during the night of the Miraj. In addition, the surah has names such as سُبْحَانَ (Subhan) because it begins by purifying Allah from all imperfections, and بَن۪يۤ اِسْرَاۤء۪يلَ (Bani Israil) because it mentions the two exiles of the Children of Israel. It is the 17th surah according to the order of revelation and the 50th surah according to the order of revelation.
