About :

A transistor switch is used to control a powerful load from a low-power control signal. Electric motors, powerful lamps, heating elements, etc., with a power from units to a million watts, can act as a load. Currents of units and thousands of amperes flow in their circuits at voltages from tens of volts to tens of kilovolts. Naturally, such large currents and high voltages cannot be controlled directly from a low-voltage and low-power microcircuit, microprocessor, or microcontroller. Therefore, a transistor switch is used as the simplest connecting element. As the name suggests, a transistor operating in the key mode is used as a switch. This mode is characterized by two states: the semiconductor device is either fully open or fully closed. In the area of relatively small and medium powers, bipolar and field or MOSFET transistors are mainly used. And high powers are mainly switched by IGBT transistors. This video discusses the first two types of semiconductor devices. The main focus of this video is on how to get out of almost any situation in the absence of a transistor not only of a certain type, but also of polarity. For example, we need a bipolar transistor of npn structure as a key, but we did not have it. However, this is not a problem, by making elementary changes to the circuit, we can replace it with a bipolar transistor of pnp structure or a MOSFET n- or p-channel. Also, with reference to the datasheet, the main parameters of semiconductor keys and the rules for calculating them are considered, which will allow you to protect both the transistor itself and the load together with the control microcircuit. It should be noted that the transistor key on the field-effect MOSFET transistor is the main component of any driver, so understanding the operation and selection of parameters of the semiconductor key will allow you to more subtly understand the operation of the driver. 1.
