The news came as a surprise a month ago. It generated enthusiasm, controversy and doubts. At the beginning of June, the government approved an initiative presented by a private consortium for the construction of a tram train that would link Plaza Independencia in Montevideo with El Pinar in Canelones. The investment, of some 500 million dollars, foresees a 35-kilometer route, along Avenida 18 de Julio, Avenida Italia and Avenida Gianattasio, with 33 stops, a couple of parking lots for car drivers to transfer to the train and two areas for workshops and parking for rolling stock. Following the Executive Branch's resolution, a study process was opened in which the Ministry of Transport and Public Works and the Municipalities of Montevideo and Canelones participated. In these weeks we have heard first impressions from the authorities of these institutions, from the bus companies that currently operate on that route and from the leaders of the transport union. The idea was also widely discussed among people and on social networks. But the companies that propose this initiative, grouped in the 3 Eses Consortium, were still missing to speak. We spoke at En Perspectiva with the representatives of these companies: engineer Iñigo Parra, president of the company Stadler Rail Valencia, engineer Alejandro Ruibal, director of Saceem and engineer Marcos Taranto, president of Stiler SA.
