Pardubice is a statutory city in eastern Bohemia and the capital of the Pardubice Region. As of 1 January 2014, the city had a population of 89,432. Pardubice is located 97 km east of Prague at the confluence of the Elbe and Chrudimka rivers. Pardubice is an important industrial city: there is a chemical industry represented by Synthesia Pardubice, a manufacturer of plastic explosives Semtex, a Paramo refinery (Pardubice mineral oil refinery), heavy engineering industry and a manufacturer of electrical products Foxconn (formerly Tesla). Pardubice is an important Czech railway junction. All passenger and long-distance trains stop there, including night trains. Pardubice is connected by rail to Hradec Králové, Brno, Prague, Olomouc, Ostrava, Halíčký Brod and Liberec. It is a junction of lines No. 010, No. 031 and No. 238, into which a total of four railway lines flow. The station is electrified (3 kV DC), oriented east-west.
