Former Governor Saito Motohiko was "automatically removed from office" at midnight on September 30th. He held a street campaign in front of his local station in preparation for the re-election. Other candidates for the Hyogo Prefectural Governor election include Kazumi Inamura, who served as Mayor of Amagasaki for three terms, who has decided to run, and Dr. Yoshikiyo Osawa, who has already announced that he will run with the Communist Party's endorsement. The Liberal Democratic Party and the Japan Innovation Party, which endorsed former Governor Saito three years ago, are also aiming to field their own candidates. Meanwhile, on the 30th, the prefecture's election commission announced that the gubernatorial election will be held with "announcement on October 31st" and "voting on November 17th".
