Tömörkényi Fish Farm Railway 1971-2021. The farm railway was used to operate the fish ponds that were originally created from the saline Csaj Lake in 1966. In the beginning, the fish feed needed for feeding was transported by boats passing through the locks, and from 1971 onwards, by a hastily constructed, almost by necessity, 760 mm gauge railway from the granaries to the lakes, where it was emptied from the gillnets into the feeding boats at loading bays on the shore. The fish caught were transported to the road in fish tanks aerated from oxygen cylinders. The fishponds created elsewhere, later, were built with wider separating embankments and asphalt roads, so the Tömörkényi light railway system quickly became obsolete, but this was precisely what gave it its charm, this made it special. Gradually, only a smaller and smaller part of the railway network, which had been deteriorating over the decades, was used. The last day of operation of the Tömörkényi Fish Farming Railway, operated by Tömörkényi Agrár Kft., is March 31, 2021. The entire area will be taken over by the Kiskunság National Park on April 15, 2021. On November 21, 2020, we had the opportunity to get to know the network that was still in operation at that time, to travel in it, and to get to know the vehicles used. I would like to thank you for the opportunity to make this short film!
