She was elected councilor in 2000 and reelected in 2004 in the city of Santos by the Christian Social Party (PSC). One of her victories in the city council was making DNA testing free of charge for patients in the public health system in 2001, a municipal law that was soon extended nationwide. She ran for state deputy twice: in the 2002 elections she received over 30,000 votes and in the 2006 elections over 19,000. Even so, she was unable to obtain a sufficient number of votes to obtain a seat in the state council.
