About a month before planting our tomatoes, we met Nicolas Toutain, head of the CCVS collection (Conservatory of Specialized Plant Collections) at the national tomato conservatory at the Château de la Bourdaisière in Montlouis sur Loire https://www.labourdaisiere.com/portfo.... Nicolas explained how to water and preserve our plants before installing them in the garden, and told us about his career (and what a career!). He also talked about pruning – so we made an appointment with him this summer for an on-site demonstration-explanation. He also talked about his favorite varieties, the “free breeder” Tom Wagner of course, but also what to plant on a balcony, in a small garden, etc. And since there are many advantages to being a vegetable-loving, monomaniac with a tendency to eat greens, we also made an appointment with him this summer for a tasting.
