About :

Large port city of about 380,000 inhabitants Located in eastern Madagascar, capital of the Atsinanana region. Toamasina, the second city of Madagascar is located between the Indian Ocean and the lagoons and marshes. Tamatave owes its checkerboard plan around Independence Avenue to the colonial period, which ends with Republic Square which opens onto the sea. Capital of the east, at the mouth of the Pangalanes Canal, Tamatave has a major oil refinery. Its port is the main seaport in Madagascar. The distance between Tamatave and Tananarive is 355 km, it currently takes 12 hours to do it compared to less than 8 hours 3 or 4 years ago.
