A key experience for him was the disaster in the Ahr Valley in 2021. He volunteered to help. People's desperation made him decide that humanity must finally act decisively and change things because of climate change. That's why he joined the Last Generation and was, for example, the responsible photographer and videographer at Hamburg Airport, which is why he and his group are facing claims for damages from two airlines totaling over half a million euros. "In these moments, you simply switch off your thinking," Moritz explains today. He was concerned with the big issue, the future of his generation and that of the next, for which he was prepared to fight. But Moritz carried on, although the aggression on the street began to take its toll on him: "Not necessarily the police, but rather strangers: One attacked us with pepper spray, others carried me away against my will ... and that feels very uncomfortable because you don't know what these people are planning to do to you." At the beginning of 2024, Moritz reached the point where he realized that he couldn't go on anymore, he was burned out. He then decided to leave, including Greenpeace and Extinction Rebellion, which he had also supported. "The burden became too great. I have to practice self-care now," he says.
