Alleluia. I bring you good news of great joy: Today a Savior has been born to you, who is Christ the Lord! Alleluia. (cf. Lk 2:10-11) Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke In those days, a decree went out from the emperor Augustus, ordering that the whole world be registered – this first registration took place when Quirinius was governor of Syria. And they all went to be registered, each to his own town. Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the town of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David which is called Bethlehem, for he was of the house and lineage of David. He came to be registered with Mary, who had been betrothed to him and was with child. Now while they were there, the time came for her to give birth. And she gave birth to her firstborn son; and she wrapped him in swaddling clothes and laid him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the common room. In the same region there were shepherds living outside, spending the night in the fields keeping watch over their flock. Then the angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them; and they were greatly afraid. Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all people. For to you has been born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be a sign for you: You will find a baby wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger.” And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of people from heaven praising God, saying, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom he is pleased.” – Let us acclaim the Word of God.
