On August 14, 2023, we were able to document a great thunderstorm front that moved from Saxony-Anhalt through Saxony to Brandenburg in the evening hours. Chasing report: On the way to Leipzig, the first thunderstorms were triggered southwest of Halle. At Kabelsketal (Saxony-Anhalt) we were able to get a first glimpse of the approaching thunderstorm front. A short time later, at the height of Leipzig, we observed the best structures of the day. We then drove over the A9 to the A38 in order to capture a possible strengthening of the southern end. Unfortunately, our plan did not work and the line strengthened with a progressive shift to the east. In order to get back in front of the line quickly, we drove northeast on various country roads. However, this turned out to be quite difficult, as the road network towards Torgau did not offer any really fast options. Due to problems such as railway crossings or closed federal highways, we can no longer position ourselves in front of the thunderstorm line, but drive in the rain close to the edge to Eisenhüttenstadt, where the storm breaks. On the way home we are accompanied by a wonderful sunset with mammatus clouds.
