An adventure in search of wealth in the middle of nowhere. Thousands of people try their luck in a new mining region. The treasure they seek is a violet crystal, amethyst. The city of Sento Sé, in the north of Bahia, is located on the banks of the São Francisco River, and very close to the Sobradinho dam. Until two months ago, the city's economy was based on fishing and onion farming. But the discovery of an amethyst mine in the Serra da Quixaba, about 50 kilometers from the city, changed the routine of the region. In a short time, at least eight thousand people sought out the mining site. Amethyst is a semi-precious stone widely used as a decorative piece. Its beauty and affordable price also mean that it is used in jewelry, usually in pieces made of gold.
